Midlife Crisis?

Not on your life! I got a Bug! I've been looking at these cute little cars since they came out a few years ago. I had one in high school back in the days of the trunk in the front, engine in the back, and battery under the back seat. Becky and I drove home from Provo to Dallas in 1977 in that little '74 Beetle without any air conditioning. It was soo much fun! Anyway, last week, the "planets aligned" and I called the dealer, went for a test drive, did the paperwork and drove it home. Quite a switch from the van. But don't despair - the van is not far away. My mom is driving it. The color of the car is...any guesses? Aquarius Blue - that's the official color. The top is dark gray. It has A/C but it's still a little too warm to ride with the top down these days. Come October, it will be wonderful. It is so cute and it's fun to ride in. I feel a little small on the freeway, but I can zip in and out when I need to. Anyway, I thought you might like to see the photos. And if this is truly a mid-life crisis, then I'm living to be 100!

Nothing to read!

Ok, everybody, time to brush up on our typing skills and put somthing new on your blog! Summer does seem to be a busy time, so there is a small excuse. But come on, with all those activities, you have a lot to share. I, for one, have not wanted to put on a new post because I didn't want to lose my Taylor pic! But I guess it's time. I'll have a really exciting post tomorrow, I hope. So stay tuned.

I wish I could go to Calgary this weekend...:( All the Melchin girls will be there and they are going to the lake. Sure would be fun to hang out with Mimi and her foot. Another year, maybe.

We had a birthday party for the little girls last Saturday. There was a little carnival in our backyard, balloons all over the house, and little kids everywhere. I think all the kids had a really good time. Hopefully Sarah will post some pics.

Toodles!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!

We did it! It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be but then everything fell into place. I got a pass (you can see it around my neck) from my cousin, Taylor, which allowed us to get into the exclusive "meet and greet" with TAYLOR HICKS. He was very gracious and seemed a little surprised at the reaction of the crowd, but at the same time he carried himself with the experience of a performing veteran. Mom was very excited - I, however, was not that impressed. JUST KIDDING! While I tried not to say anything too stupid, I may have failed - when it was our turn for a picture, I said to him, "It's our turn - we are Taylor's - I think we're related." Yes, I'm a little star struck!

I took this picture for Zack. Taylor looks a little frightened. He's 6'1", but as you can see, he's a little munchkin compared to Zack. I asked Taylor if I could take a picture of him with my brother. He said "sure". I said "even though he voted for Katharine." I didn't hear it, but Zack said Taylor chuckled at that. I MADE TAYLOR HICKS CHUCKLE!!!

These last two shots are of Taylor while he was mingling with the crowd. He was so cute. He was not the contractual "headliner" of the show, but he is the reason that the stadium was full. The crowd went crazy when he danced during "Takin' It To The Streets." He had control of the crowd even though this was the largest live venue he had ever played. It was absolutely worth the 24 hour drive for the 36 hours we spent in Provo. We got 3 autographs and several souvenir placards. All of the publicity in the city and the newspapers focused on Taylor - his photo was on everything. There was not even a mention of the actual headliner. We had a blast. We talked about it after the show and during the ride home.

Did he make us proud? You better believe it! We're proud to be part of the Soul Patrol!
